Q:
What are those!

A: We hear this alot! The 3 Sisters uses old dominoes, vintage bottle caps,
and retro record albums to transform into wearable pieces of art.
Let's talk about Domino Art first: We work in three different sizes of dominoes,
a travel size or small, a medium, and a large or professional size domino. The
dominoes are all handpainted and handstamped. No machining or production facility
is used, each one is individually hand created by Martha, the Big Sister.
Dominoes turn into their finished pieces depending upon the size of the domino.
Large dominoes become necklaces . Medium dominoes become necklaces. Small dominoes
become earrings, necklaces or bracelets.
Our bottle cap jewelry is made from vintage pop tops. These are bottle
caps that have never been used, so have never been crimped. The tops are flipped
over, and an image is sealed under an acrylic cabochon, surrounded with delicata
seed beads, and then sealed in with a poly acrylic resin. Each piece is a one
of a kind, with different imagery, colors and bottle caps. No two are ever the
same.
Check out the
Glass Eyes! We just started using actual glass eyes, like ones used in taxidermy,
in the bottle caps. Way FUN!
Our latest adventure
is turning vintage record albums in to funky handbags. Each hand bag begins
with an original vintage record album that is cut, riveted and laced to vinyl,
leather and vintage fabrics to create one of a kind, original purses.
Q:
What do necklaces look like?
A:Every image we create is availabe as a necklace
Large necklaces are strung on either leather cording or small ball chain. Large
necklaces are strung by drilling through the domino, and stringing the ball
chain or cording through. Both leather cording and ball chain comes in 18" lengths.
Ball chain may be cut shorter by you to any length you wish.
Medium necklaces are available strung on small ball chain or leather cording.
All necklaces come strung at 18", ball chain can be cut shorter by you to any
length you wish.
Small dominoes are available on small ball chain. It is 18" long and can be
cut by you to any size.
Bottle cap necklaces are available on small ball chain. All necklaces are
18" long, the ball chain may be cut by you to shorten to whatever length you
wish.
Q:
What do the earrings look like?
A:Earrings are strung on sterling wire. Earrings are only available in the small
dominoes.
Q:
What do the Bracelets look like?
A:
Domino Bracelets are made with 9 to 12 small dominoes, depending upon the
image and the beading. We use only semi precious stones in our bracelets. Domino
Bracelets are reversible you can wear them image side out or domino side out.
Most domino bracelets are also accented with a pewter charm. Domino Bracelets
are only availabe in the small size domino.
Bottle cap bracelets are made with 5 bottle caps, and 5 different images.
They are joined with sterling jump rings, soldered closed, and worn with a toggle
clasp.
Q:
Why does the catalog show pictures only of the images?
A: The way we create our image lines is to create the
image first and then figure out what we can turn it into. Therefore, the easiest
way to shop is to narrow down an image or a size you are interested in and then
go from there.
We also found that it slowed down the web page tremendously to load 4 or 5 different
pictures for each image, so we use this page to show you what the individual
pieces look like as their finished product.
Q:
Why doesn't mine look exactly like the one in the picture?
A: Because each piece we make is individually created,
it is impossible to make them all exactly the same. There will always be a slight
variation in color, position. With the dominoes, some images lend themselves
to a lot of variations between pieces, other pieces are easy to produce similar
pieces of. With the bottle caps, we have a wide range of imagery we use, and
that combined with the color and cap, makes each one an original. Just remember
you are getting a one of a kind piece of art.
Q:
Why can't I have the image I want on any domino size?
A: The process that we use to create the domino art makes
the image fixed in size. This means that most images (though not all) don't
move between domino sizes, they fit on only one size of domino. We don't have
the ability to make the image fit on any size domino we wish. With the bottle
cap art, we do have the ability to make the image any size we want.
Q:
Are the pieces waterproof? How do they wear?
A: The domino pieces are handpainted and handstamped
and then sealed with two coats of acrylic varnish. They will withstand normal
wear and tear extremely well, and are waterproof (We use windex to clean our
show pieces!). The one thing that domino art will not hold up to is scratches.
We also suggest being careful with sun lotions or body lotions and your piece.
Bottle
cap jewelry is waterproof, and virtually indestructible. The back of the bottle
cap is susceptible to scratches, and if worn in saltwater, we suggest you rinse
your piece off. If you wish to protect the back of your bottle cap better, you
can put a coat of clear nail polish on it every once in a while.
Q:
Why do you only show one picture of the bottle cap jewelry and you don't show
the actual pieces?
A: We show only one image from our image line for each
piece. Within each image line there are anywhere from 10 to 30 different images
that we use. All of the imagery used is similar to the image you see on the
web. Because of the process we use to create the bottle cap jewelry, the domed
marble makes them extraordinarily difficult to photograph, and they appear distorted
in the picture when it doesn't look that way in person. We felt that you would
get a better idea of the imagery we used by showing a sample of the imagery
before it is placed in the bottle cap.
Q:
How long from when I place the order will you ship?
A: We typically ship within 3 business days. Special
orders can extend that time, and we will let you know how much extra time we
need to ship your order.
Q:
Why do some of the dominoes have more dots than others?
A: Dominoes come in many dot or number combinations.
Most people are familiar with the double 6's, but dominoes also come as double
9's, double 12's, double 15's and double 18's. We use double 6's in our small
and medium dominoes, and double 12's in our large dominoes.
Q:
Will the record album bags melt in the heat? How do I take care of the purse?
A: The record album bags will withstand normal wear and
tear and require very little in the way of special care. They will sustain some
scratching and scuffing from use, but we don't feel this distracts from there
appearance. To clean the surface of the bag, we spritz a little windex on a
paper towel and wipe down the surface. You can also use furniture polish, such
as Pledge, to freshen them up a bit. The bags will hold up in regular heat,
as they require a temperature of about 200 degrees in order to start warping.
Your bag should never be subjected to that level of heat unless you leave it
in the car on a hot day, or leave it out while you're baking at the beach. These
would both be good examples of inappropriate places for a record album purse!
